What ingredients do you use in your candles?
What ingredients do you use in your candles?
We start off with 100% paraffin free ethically sourced soy wax, then we custom blend the soy wax with beeswax sourced from a Canadian apiary.
We then add phthalate and paraben free - high quality candle safe fragrances using our own fragrance recipes.
We feel that our high quality ingredients makes all of the difference and creates a high quality product that we can be proud of.

Tell me more about your candles and wax melts!
Lighthouse Fragrance Co. makes all of our candles and wax melts in house using a proprietary blend of soy wax and beeswax. We found the beeswax helps balance out any of the finicky issues soy wax can bring to the table (many places use paraffin instead of beeswax to fix these mostly cosmetic issues). Plus beeswax is the most natural of all of the waxes and can help increase the burn time of your candles. From there we carefully select our quality fragrance oils, choosing ones that smell great and perform well.
After our ingredients are selected, we begin testing. Testing candles is the most important job of a candle maker. This insures not only performance of our candles but also safety, which is the upmost importance. We test burn our candles with any change in our recipe to ensure the wick is still performing as we wanted and that the candle isn’t burning too hot, or not hot enough.
I'm having wick issues, any tips?
I'm having wick issues, any tips?
The most important thing to remember with wood wicks is proper trimming. If your wick is trimmed to 1/8 inch it should perform as desired. We find holding the candle on an angle and lighting on the side of the wick works best, and let the flame travel across and spread over the entire wick. If your flame looks a little high, it probably needs a trim. Extinguish your candle and let it cool. Once cooled, using nail clippers or wick trimmers, clip off all the charred bits, leaving the height of your wick to 1/8 inch. This should do the trick, but wood wicks are a natural product and sometimes slight variations may alter a wood wick performance. If you are still having issues, please contact us and we can help you troubleshoot.
Why has the colour of my wax changed? Has it gone bad?
Why has the colour of my wax changed? Has it gone bad?
No. The lighter spots you may see in our wax blends are a known cosmetic issue with both soy and beeswax. Many companies will use additives or other waxes blended to reduce this issue (which is called Frosting), but we want our candles to be additive free and paraffin free. The frosting you see is only cosmetic and will go away once you burn your candle or melt. It can even go away in the warmer months, as it is something that happens more in the colder temperatures.
Frosting is something that frustrates us as candle makers, but we absolutely love how our wax blend performs so we think it is worth the slight cosmetic blemish.
My wax has a crack in it, what gives?
My wax has a crack in it, what gives?
Beeswax is a very hard wax. Even blended with soy wax this can cause slight cracking when there are cold temperatures. Slight cracks in the wax will go away once lighting and it will not affect the performance of your candle.

Unfortunately at this time, we are only shipping within Canada. Because Lighthouse Fragrance Co. is located in Newfoundland, shipping can be extra tricky for us, so to minimize any potential issues, we have limited our shipping for the time being. That said, if there is something you see that you love and are located outside of Canada. Please contact us, and we can see what we can do.
